Margaret Zappelli York

Mrs. Margaret Zappelli York, 94, of the 500 block of Winwood Drive, Chesapeake, VA, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, October 9, 2017. Mrs. York was born February 5, 1923, in Somerville, MA, the daughter of the late Francesco and Assunta Balastrazzi Zappelli. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David Arthur and Patty York of Chesapeake, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. York was preceded in death by her husband of 12 years, Lee B. York; three sisters; and four brothers. After the untimely death of her husband, she raised her son with only the help of friends. She worked in Chesapeake Public School System for eight years to support herself and her son. Later in life, she found the Lord, and despite her fear of water, trusted in the Lord and submitted into the waters of baptism through immersion. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at 3:00 PM at West Park Church of Christ, with Keith Lewis officiating. Burial will follow on Friday, October 13, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:30 until 8:30 PM at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, Portsmouth, VA. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Carrington Place of Chesapeake for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Park Church of Christ Building Fund. The family is being served by Sturtevant Funeral Home in Portsmouth, VA, and Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
