Mrs. Margie Irene Beck Baker, 88, of Westfield, passed away Friday afternoon, October 26, 2012. Mrs. Baker was born September 27, 1924, in Surry County, the first of twelve children born to the late Joe and Ethel O'Neal Beck. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Pine Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Crissman of Siloam; a son and two daughters-in-law, Wade and Wanda Baker of Westfield and Marie Craddock Baker of White Plains; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tracy and Kent Martin and Michelle Baker, all of Westfield, Mark and Pat Crissman and Steve and Britta Crissman, all of Siloam, and Brandon and Trena Baker of Mount Airy; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie Steele of Ararat, Betty Fuller of Mount Airy, and Jannie and Junior Crissman and Lucille Crissman, all of Siloam; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Peggy Collins of Westfield. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Edgar Baker; an infant daughter, Wanda Gail Baker; a son, Edgar Lee Baker; a son-in-law, Esker Crissman; two great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Annie Bryant; and six brothers, Howard Beck, Elmer Beck, Paul Beck, John D. Beck, A.C. Beck, and Jacob Beck. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 29, 2012, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dan Buie officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitaker Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and their family and friends for the loving and compassionate care they provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
