Mrs. Margie Payne Thomas age 85 of Mt. Airy, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 in Birmingham, AL. Mrs. Thomas was born in Surry County, February 7, 1924 to Colombus Franklin and Sarah Berrier Payne. She was retired from Hanes, Inc. and was a member of Stewart's Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving is her loving husband, Robert Oah Thomas of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean T. and Rex Mathis; Joyce T. and Gary Hensley; Wanda T. and Doug Messer; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Joyce Thomas; grandchildren; Bethany T. Smeraglia; John Thomas; Angela M. Thomas; Shauna T. Sanders; Wade T. Thomas; Curtis Carrico; Thomas J. Carrico; Danny Stanley; Dawn M. Gregory; Kimberly B. Nester; Teresa B. Riggins; Chad S. Hensley; Luciana H. Hagee; Lynette M. Smith; Kenneth A. Messer; Robert A. Messer; great grandchildren, Anna M. Smeraglia; Sarah M. Smeraglia; Robert B. Thomas; Holyn B. Thomas; Bradley T. Sanders; Kaylie Sanders; Haylie C. Thomas; Jeffrey G. Thomas; Ashley S. Harris; Brittany S. DeZern; Ivey Stanley; Cassi Gregory; Ronan A. Nester; Giada N. Nester; Tiffany M. Riggins; Cory M. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by sisters, Arlie Beamer, Stella Hawks, Gertrude May; an infant sister, Ellen Payne and brothers, Beuford Payne and Columbus Payne. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Gary Lowe and Elder Arwood Edwards. Burial will follow in Mona Vista Memory Gardens in Galax. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home.
