Miss Marie "Jack" Nichols, 87, of 410 Old Cadle Ford Road, Mount Airy, passed away Friday afternoon, August 26, 2011, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin. Miss Nichols was born June 6, 1924, in Surry County, one of thirteen children born to the late Charlie Merlin and Lottie Bingman Nichols. She retired as a secretary from White Plains Elementary School after 36 years of service and was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Nichols was preceded in death by seven sisters, Martha Key, Etta Atkins, Myrtle Brintle, Alma "Polly" Nichols, Dora Nichols, Bertie Badgett, and Connie Draughn; and five brothers, Tom Nichols, Merlin Nichols, Sam Nichols, Chester Nichols, and Harvey Nichols. The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 28, 2011, at 3:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Jake Penley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting, and other times at the home of Harry and Kaye Nichols, 374 Old Cadle Ford Road, Mount Airy.
