Marie Johnson Willis

Mrs. Marie Johnson Willis, 78, of Mt. Airy passed away at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Sunday, June 5, 2022.  She was born in Pulaski, VA, October 13, 1943, to the late Melvin Julius and Myrtle Bell Owens Johnson.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and a faithful member of Franklin Heights United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted.  Mrs. Willis enjoyed singing in the choir and the fellowship with her church family.  She was a member of the Joyful Heirs for several years along with her late husband Larry, preforming in various nursing homes in the area.  Mrs. Willis owned and operated the Allison Tree in Dobson along with her late husband Clifton Willis for over 20 years.  She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Abby and Tony Stanley; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Lisa Whitaker; grandchildren and spouses, Courtney Martin and T.J., Christopher Whitaker, II and Samara, and Sydni Whitaker and George; great grandchildren, Garrett, Amelia, and Emrick.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by husbands, Welford Whitaker, Clifton “Burnard” Willis, and Larry Parker; a daughter, Lisa Dawn Whitaker; and sisters, Betty Virginia Johnson and Margaret Jean Johnson Simmons.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 10, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Morgan officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Willis requested that memorial contributions be made to ASPCA.org for her love of animals.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
