Mrs. Marilyn Sue Cooke Cooke, 56, of Pilot Mountain, wife of Larry Cooke, passed away Saturday morning, March 19, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Cooke was born April 3, 1954, in Forsyth County, daughter of Melverine Gilley Cooke and the late Arthur Franklin Cooke, Jr. Mrs. Cooke earned her bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University in 1976. She retired as the media specialist from East Surry High School after 25 years of service and was with Stokes County School System for five years prior to that. She will be fondly remembered for her love of students and fellow teachers. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Cooke was a member of Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Larry Cooke of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Boone and Julie Cooke of Pinnacle; two beloved grandchildren, Carter Cooke and Marie Cooke, Pinnacle; her mother, Melverine Gilley Cooke of Pilot Mountain; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Clinton Parker of Boone; a brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Nancy Cooke of Boone; many special and beloved friends; and a special Golden Retriever, Rita Mae. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Franklin Cooke, Jr. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marilyn will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 6:00 PM at Woodville Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Brinkley and the Rev. Keith Love, with a committal service to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Jackie Cooke, 9967 NC Highway 89, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Surry High School for the Marilyn Cooke Book Fund, 801 West Main Street, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
