Mr. Mark Edward Atkins, 54, of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday, October 15, 2020 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry County on December 25, 1965 to the late Ernest and Betty Louise Coake Atkins Weddle. Mr. Atkins was a mechanic, and a member of Community Church. He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Derrick (Nichole) Atkins, Darren Atkins, Justin (Crystal) Atkins; a step daughter, Chyna Bingman; five grandchildren; Devon, Dalton, Jagger, Jackeline and Lillanna Atkins; four step grandchildren; Alex and Aaron Grueshaber, Gabriel and Ezra Bingman; four sisters, Shelby (Bruce) Hawks, Geraldine (Ray) Hutson, Glenda Phillips, and Janet Burkhart; brothers, Ernest Michael “Mike” Atkins, Jeffery (Jeff) Weddle, Kenneth Weddle and Gregory “Greg” (Cooky) Weddle; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James Phillips, and his step father, Phillip “Phil” Weddle. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Little Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Noel Hawks and the Rev. Ray Hutson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 at Little Mountain Baptist Church.
