Mr. Mark William Nichols, 61, of 1773 C.C. Camp Road, Elkin, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Nichols was born February 15, 1947, in Surry County, to the late James William Lafayette and Rachel Pauline Gruble Nichols. Mark served our country in the United States Air Force for more than 18 years. During his military experiences, he received a safety award for preventing a state-side nuclear accident. Mr. Nichols was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church in Elkin. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Norma Holyfield Nichols of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric James and Cagney Nichols of Mount Airy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Rex Blackburn of Jonesville and Vicky and Randal Mitchem of Elkin; two stepdaughters, Jamie Barnett and Nicole Houdek, both of Mount Airy; two stepsons, Jason Barnett and Richard Houdek, both of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Conner James Nichols of Mount Airy, Kristen Blackburn of Jonesville, and Katlin Laffoon, Olivia Mitchem, and Hunter Mitchem, all of Elkin; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Debbie and Dean Watson, Alicia and Larry Easter, and Terri Lynn Nichols, all of Mount Airy; a brother, Greg Nichols of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jesse Garmon and Brother Tommy Shelton, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
