Mark Shane Underwood

Mr. Mark Shane Underwood, 57, of Winston-Salem, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem Saturday, November 26, 2022.  He was born in Surry County on January 17, 1965, to the late Donald Clifton and Katherine Louise Taylor Underwood.  Mr. Underwood proudly served in the U.S Army and continued his patriotism by serving a member of the American Legion Post 36 in Kernersville where he acted as the historian and he was employed with Collins Aerospace.  He exhibited his athletic abilities for a period of time through his wrestling being known as the “Wild Shane West”.  Mr. Underwood had a fun sense of humor and could be quite a jokester at times, but he loved his family and relished the time he could spend with them.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Claudette Ring Underwood; daughter Jessica Elizabeth Underwood; stepchildren, Scott Alderman and wife, Sharon, and Amy Southern and husband, Scott; five step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; a sister Sheila Underwood Kendrick and husband Bobby; brothers, Alan Underwood and wife Brenda, and Douglas Underwood and wife, Andrea.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by a half-sister Frances Ross and husband Joe; a brother Donald Underwood and wife Susie; and a half-brother Raleigh Haynes.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy  with the Rev. Bill Ring officiating.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens with full military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, Attn: Director of Development, 706 Grove Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or by phone 864-235-0506.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
