Mr. Marshall Henry Petlitz, 89, of Mt. Airy, widower of Jane Burns Petlitz, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Petlitz was born July 3, 1917, in Albany, NY, to Harry and Augusta Hoffman Petlitz. He was retired as the owner/operator of Spring Hill Memory Garden in Salisbury, MD, and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mr. Petlitz was past exalted ruler of Salisbury, MD, Elks Lodge; was past president and past district governor of the Kiwanis Club also in Salisbury, MD. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen G. and Mary S. Petlitz of Mt. Airy; a brother-in-law, Joseph Cohen of Concord, CA; a nephew, Gordon Cohen and wife, Sylva of Dallas, TX; and a special friend, Doris Mills of Mt. Airy. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Central United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. John Ferree and the Rev. Phillip Cole. Entombment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury, MD. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until the time of the service in the parlor at the church. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Central Continuing Care for the love and care given to Mr. Petlitz. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1919 North Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Suite 999, Charlotte, NC 28215.
