Mr. Marshall Mack Spencer, 79, of 171 Critz Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, September 5, 2010, at his home. Mr. Spencer was born May 28, 1931, in Surry County, the son of the late George Cabell and Minnie Louella Sechrist Spencer. Mack served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was decorated with four bronze stars for his bravery and meritorious service. He worked in the cutting room at Perry Manufacturing for many years and was a member of The Friendly Tabernacle. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lilla Belle Kirkman Spencer of the home; three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Fred D. and Nita Kirkman of Anderson, SC, Charles L. Kirkman, Jr. and Sue Kirkman of Clemmons, and Steve D. and Linda Kirkman and Wanda Kirkman, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by five sisters, Stacy Cundiff, Ella Alderman, Nancy Spencer, Mae Lee Spencer, and Linnie Moore; and three brothers, Woodrow Spencer, Cleveland Spencer, and James Spencer. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at 11:00 AM at The Friendly Tabernacle, with the Rev. Dud Spencer and the Rev. Roby Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Friendly Tabernacle.
