Martha Daphne Goins King

Mrs. Martha Daphne Goins King, 96, of Mount Airy, gained her heavenly wings on Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. King was born September 6, 1928, in Henry County, VA, the daughter of the late David and Doskia Pruitt Goins. For many years, Daphne worked in the cafeteria at Gentry Middle School, where she became a cherished figure to students and staff alike. Mrs. King was the oldest active member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in serving the Lord. She is survived by four daughters, Brenda George (Phil), Karen Frye (Larry), Jill Wilmoth (Kevin), and Jan Powell; her grandchildren, Emily Jessee (Jared), Courtney George, Jennifer Nowicki (Rob), Stephanie Edenfield (Newell), Natalie Frye, Brooke Johnson, Hunter Johnson (Susannah), Sabrina Wilmoth, and Shane Wilmoth; her great-grandchildren, Rede, Sarah Elizabeth, Shepherd, Addison, Owen, Mason, and Ellis; a sister, Alene Covington; and a special niece who lovingly cared for Daphne, Lucille Cates. In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, George Wallace King, and several siblings. A service of worship and celebration of Daphne’s life will be held Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rusty Reed and the Rev. Grant Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, under the direction of the Rev. Frank Hensley. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
