Mrs. Martha Winonia Hiatt Wilhite, 79, of 123 Wild West Trail, Mount Airy, widow of Ramey Wilhite, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Wilhite was born June 4, 1927, in Surry County, to the late Alvin Lee Hiatt, Sr. and Martha Agnes Cook Hiatt. She was a homemaker and a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and David Hawkins of Pilot Mountain and Martha and Steve Eaton of Mount Airy; three sons and four daughters-in-law, R.J. and Betty Wilhite, Danny and Alice Wilhite, Joe and Phyllis Wilhite, all of Mount Airy, and Sharon Wilhite of Westfield; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ruth Shaw and Janice Hiatt, both of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Lois Hiatt, Perlie Hiatt, and Dillard Hiatt, all of Mount Airy; and two brothers-in-law, Ray Wilhite and James Wilhite, both of Mount Airy. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Wilhite was preceded in death by a son, Frankie Wilhite; a sister, Irene Hiatt; and two brothers, Franklin Hiatt and Alvin Hiatt. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at 2:00 PM at Flat Rock Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Todd E. Byrd and the Rev. Verlon Combs. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Flat Rock Baptist Church, where her body will remain until the hour of the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, 1335 East Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
