Mrs. Martha Lucille Patterson Wright, 97, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Wright was born August 23, 1911, in Surry County, to J.S. and Mae Fulk Patterson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a devoted member of Central United Methodist Church, where she looked forward to playing the piano on the first Sunday of each month before worship services. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Tom Lawrence of Stone Mountain, GA, and Judy and Clyde Goad of Columbus, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, George C. Wright, Jr. and Mary Wright of Stone Mountain, GA; nine grandchildren, George C. Wright, III and wife, Debbie, John Wright, Mark Wright and wife, Kelly, Paul Wright and wife, Kristin, Chris Vaughn and husband, Stuart, Tom Lawrence, III, Patrick Lawrence and wife, Heather, Amy Cotter and husband, Matt, and Kimberly Sauter and husband, B.J.; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a loving caregiver, Josephine Boyd. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, George C. Wright; a sister, Viola Lewis; and brothers, Glenn Patterson, James Patterson, Fred Patterson, and Thomas Wayne Patterson. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 12, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Central United Methodist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. John Feree and Rev. George C. Wright, III, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service in the Ladies' Parlor at Central United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
