Martha "Mattie" Watson

Mrs. Martha “Mattie” Virginia Allred Watson, 100, of Mt. Airy, passed away at Northern Regional Skilled Care, Sunday, June 27, 2021.  She was born in Surry County October 2, 1920, to the late Bernie William and Mary Maude Barker Allred.  Mrs. Watson retired from Spencer’s and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.  She will be lovingly remembered by her stepsons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Bonnie Watson, Clyde Watson, and Gary and Pam Watson; a godson Robert Poore; and nieces and nephews, Wayne Allred, Jimmy Allred, Kay Gerrigues, Ann Miller, Karen Mitchell, Elizabeth Williams, Mary Dickerson, Margaret Smith, and Dickie Allred.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Shinault; her second husband Dewey Franklin Watson; a stepdaughter-in-law, Rosa Watson; a sister Mary Poore; and by brothers, Jim, Ed, Paul, Worth, and Howard Allred; a niece and nephews, Martha Key, Jessie Allred, Joe Allred, and Robert Poore.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.  There will not be any formal visitation.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 2591 Wards Gap Rd., Mt.
