Martin Lee Austin, Sr


Mr. Martin Lee Austin, Sr., age 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday February 6, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 28, 1933 in Warwick County, VA to Franklin Onieta and Gladys Mae Johns Austin. Mr. Austin retired from Riverside Hospital Newport News, VA and was a faithful member of New Venture Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him. Mr. Austin is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patsy “Pat” Childress Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Beth Austin; a granddaughter, Brittany Throckmorton; a great-grandson, Vann Throckmorton; and by two special friends, Larry Sumner and Judy Willard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Williams. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at New Venture Baptist Church where he will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Services will be conducted by Rev. Larry Thomas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 & Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to thank the staff of Woltz Hospice Home for their loving care during our time of need.
