Mr. Marvin Lee Spicer, Sr. 74, loving husband of Mrs. Lois Fowler Spicer of Dobson passed away on Sunday July 27, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital after several years of declining health. He was born in Wilkes County on July 24, 1934 to the late Garland Franklin and Elsie Tucker Spicer. Mr. Spicer was retired from Chatham Manufacturing after forty-four years of service and enjoyed many years of farming. He was a faithful, dedicated member of Turkey Ford Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty years Mrs. Lois Fowler Spicer of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law Marvin Lee, Jr. and Janet Spicer of Dobson, and Glenn Alan Spicer of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren Lheanne Spicer Daniels and husband Derek and Marvin Lee Spicer III.; three sisters and a brother-in-law Marlene and Billy Lee Jolly of Ronda, Nelda Barker Dezern of Roaring River, Lou Ella Spicer of Elkin and a brother Bobby L. Spicer of Trap Hill; several nieces, nephew and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spicer was preceded in death by a sister Jennie Spicer Johnston; a brother William "Bud" Spicer and two infant brothers Larry Dale Spicer and Archie Max Spicer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday July 30, 2008 at Turkey Ford Baptist Church with Dr. Henry J. Corn and Rev. Amos Lyon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:30 until 8:30 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or Memorials may be made to the Turkey Ford Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Polly Johnson 1508 Turkey Ford Rd. Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
