Mary Imogene Arrington Adams

Mrs. Mary Imogene “Jean” Arrington Adams, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Adams was born November 24, 1938, in Surry County, the middle of three daughters born to the late Lacy and Dorothy Inman Arrington.  As a teenager, sweet Jean married a roguish, young Joe Bill Adams.  Their marriage lasted 67 beautiful years until Joe Bill’s death in 2020.  A Godly woman to the end, Jean loved Jesus, her family, her church, and quite literally everyone she met.  Jean never hesitated to tell people that she loved them and if you knew her, you loved her too.  Jean made friends everywhere she went, including the doctor’s office, the grocery store, and Dollar General.  She always had a kind word and a sincere “bless your heart” for everyone.  With a tender heart for animals, children, and Publisher’s Clearing House, Jean finally hit the jackpot.  She is home now with her Joe Bill, her loving sisters, her parents, and Jesus.  She is survived by her only son, Marty Joe Adams (Sally); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her loyal companion, Larry the cat.  In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Martin and Wanda Lawson.  A celebration of life service, memorializing the lives of both Jean and Joe Bill, will be held Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Pastor John Cox and Pastor Mike Springston officiating.  No formal visitation will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her home church, Family Fellowship Chapel, 2237 South McKinney Road, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
