Mary Ethel Amburn

Mrs. Mary Ethel Amburn, 84, of Mt. Airy passed away at her home, Friday, November 4, 2022.  She was born in Carroll County, VA, August 8, 1938, to the late Richard “Dick” and Mary Jane White Surratt.  Mrs. Amburn retired from Nester’s Hosiery and was of the Baptist Faith.  She loved her family and enjoyed the time they spent together.  She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Walter Dellenbeck; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Becky Surratt; special nieces, Jenua Nester, Julia Johnson, Melissa Carter, and Tracy Webster; special nephews, Cody and Scott Dellenbeck; and several other nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Amburn was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Edward “J.E.” Amburn; a sister, Betty Leftwich; brothers, Pat, Sam, Hayzen, and Johnny Surratt; and a nephew, Johnny Leftwich.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy Monday, November 7, 2022, from 12:00 until 1:30 pm, with a graveside service following at 2:00 PM, at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating.  The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to her caregiver, Nina Horton and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the kindness and care given to Mrs. Amburn during her illness.
