Mrs. Mary Ruth Golding Barker, 93, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2009, at her daughter's home. Mrs. Barker was born September 13, 1915, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Squire Franklin and Martha Elizabeth Carson Golding. She retired from Renfro Corporation and was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Nell Gardner and James Donald Byrd of Mount Airy; a sister, Ida Shelton of Mount Airy; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Gardner; and her second husband, Benny Barker; four sisters, Maude Edwards, Mamie Ramey, Fannie McKinney, and Bertha Mobley; four brothers, Emmett Golding, Ralph Golding, Reuben Golding, and Harvey Golding. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 1:00 PM at Fancy Gap Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Fancy Gap Baptist Church, 1161 West Lebanon Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
