Mary Louise Bauer

Miss Mary Louise Bauer, 56, of 269 Smith Lane, Mount Airy, lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mary was born June 14, 1954, in Ontario County, NY, daughter of the late Elmer John and Esther Claire Davis Bauer. Mary grew up in Pumpkin Hook, NY, and graduated from high school in Albuquerque, NM, in 1972. Mary served our country in the United States Army as a communications specialist from 1972 until 1978 and was stationed in Germany at the end of the Vietnam War. After the service, she relocated to Fort Collins, CO, where she was employed at Eastman Kodak until 1997. Mary loved the mountains and spent every chance she had hiking and camping throughout the Rocky Mountains. She then decided to move to Mount Airy, where she became a faithful and devoted member of Salem Baptist Church. Mary loved reading her Bible and singing to her Lord. She will always be remembered by her family and friends for her love of life, great sense of humor, honesty, and her devotion to her fifteen nieces and nephews. She is survived by five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Barbara and J. Frederick Weinhold of Chattanooga, TN, Sharon and Ken Eidson of Boise, ID, Carolyn and Jimmy Meehan of Westland, MI, Peggy and Clyde Lutton of Fort Collins, CO, and Cindy Inman of Somerset, KY; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gene Bauer of Canandaigua, NY, and Jim and Ruthie Bauer of Albuquerque, NM; seven nieces; eight nephews: countless special friends; and her extended family from Salem Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Bauer. A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011, at 7:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church, with Dr. Bobby R. Lewis, Jr. officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the conclusion of the memorial service by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 until 7:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 430 Rockford Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
