Mary Selena Sparger Bruland

Mrs. Mary Selena Sparger Bruland, 86, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Bruland was born August 10, 1923, in Surry County, to the late William Nathaniel and Roxie Pearl Reeves Sparger. She retired after 54 years of service in the field of dentistry. Mrs. Bruland was a member of First Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain. She graduated from Flat Rock High School and obtained a dental assistant's degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She is survived by two sisters, Lola Sparger Miller and Audrey G. Sparger, both of Pilot Mountain; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John W. and Peggy Venable Sparger of Pilot Mountain and Dr. Jerry R. and Dona Sechrest Sparger of Germantown, TN; a niece, Sandra Tucker Mosley and her husband, Henry, of Pilot Mountain; two nephews, Bing Miller of Pilot Mountain and Derek Sparger of Jackson, MS; a step nephew, Ray Venable of Ararat, VA; a great niece, Katie Miller of King; great nephews, Will Miller of King, Brad Tucker, Drew Tucker, David Tucker, and Christopher Tucker, all of Charlotte; and a step great nephew, Josh Venable of Ararat, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bruland was preceded in death by her husband, Russell A. Bruland; two sisters, Carrie B. Sparger and Imogene Sparger Fulk; a great niece, Sarah Elizabeth Tucker; and a great step nephew, Dusty Venable. A private memorial service will be conducted at Skyline Memory Gardens by Elder Dona Sechrest Sparger. There will not be a formal visitation.
