Mary Nell Byrd

Mrs. Mary Nell Gardner Byrd, 85, of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Surry Community Nursing Center.  She was born in Surry County November 12, 1932 to Robert Glenn Gardner and Mary Ruth Golding Gardner Barker.  She retired from J.C. Penney’s and was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Byrd is survived by an aunt, Ida Shelton; special first cousins, Freta Deatherage, Carolyn Underwood, Sylvia Jacobs and Terry Shelton and many other special cousins and friends.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Byrd.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Alex Martin Officiating, Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time for the service.  In lieu of flowers Mary Nell requested that memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 314 S.
