Mary Lee Carpenter

Mrs. Mary Lee Mabe Carpenter, 89, of Stuart, Florida passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Martin Memorial Hospital, Stuart, Florida. She was born in Alleghany County on June 5, 1932, to the late Vester and Della Hawks Mabe. Mrs. Carpenter retired from Renfro Corporation in Mount Airy, North Carolina and a member of Tropical Farms Baptist Church, Stuart, Florida. She lived a beautiful long life, full of spirit and love. She was a loving mother, and grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memories are daughter, Nancy C Mears of Mount Airy, North Carolina, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Richard Bell of Stuart, Florida. Granddaughter Christy Lynn Mears of Mount Airy, North Carolina and Granddaughter Clara Mae Mears and Fiancé Stephen Hensley of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Great-granddaughters Brooklyn Mackenzie Mosley and Madison “Maddie” Taylor Mosley both of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Special friend, Colleen Diane Patrick of Hobe Sound, Florida who in Mary Lee’s words “was treated like a daughter”. In addition to her parents Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Curnel Carpenter; sisters Eva Keys and Emma Weaver; brothers Coy Elbert Mabe, and Clarence Mabe. A son-in-law, Rev. Roger Dale Mears. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Cana, Virginia with the Rev. David Sechrist officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, January 24, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Shiloh Cemetery in Sparta, North Carolina.
