Mrs. Mary Alice Hiatt Cockerham, 83, of Walnut Cove, passed away peacefully on Saturday night, April 12, 2025, and is now resting a Jesus’ feet. Mrs. Cockerham was born May 7, 1941, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Robert Oakley and Sadie Bell Haynes Hiatt. Alice retired as a fixer from Sara Lee Corporation after many years of service. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ricky Morton; a son, Arnold Easter; three grandchildren, Michael Morton, Sherrie Helmstetler, and Beth Evans; five great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Susan Hiatt and Vicki Balkey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cockerham was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Wayne Cockerham; a daughter, Jennie Cockerham Mabe; two sons, Billy Easter and Bobby Easter; three sisters, Della Malloy, Betty Jesse, and Mozelle Williams; and a brother, Martin Hiatt. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Wall officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
