Mrs. Mary Lee Rawley Cropps, 87, of Ararat, NC passed away peacefully at her home on Monday December 29, 2008 as her loving family surrounded her bedside in a circle of prayer. She was born in Surry County on December 19, 1921 to the late James and Jessie King Rawley. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Mrs. Cropps had been a dedicated member and Church Mother of Stewart's Creek Primitive Baptist Church since 1959. Surviving are her daughters and son-in-laws Lois Cropps of High Point, NC, Cladys and Tollie Graham of Augusta, GA, Mary Nell Hylton of Yadkinville, NC, Clara Bell and Hugh Dobson of Yadkinville, NC, Jessie and Brian Johnson of Ararat, NC Phyllis and Eddie Dowell of Roaring River, NC and Margaret Cropps of Rocky Mount, NC; one son and daughter-in-law Grover and Brenda Cropps of Ararat, NC; sixteen grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; her sisters and brothers-in-law Altin Reynolds of Mt. Airy, NC, Mattie and Steve Stevenson of Pittsburgh, Pa, Jessie Strickland of Mt. Airy, Frances and McClain Smith of Mt. Airy, Nc, Gracie Rawley of Culpepper, Va; her brother James William Rawley of Mt. Airy, Nc, a brother-in-law Jesse Cropps(Unice) and a special Aunt Helen Taylor and a host of neices, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Grover Lee Cropps, a grandaughter Lorretta M. Cropps; a sister Annette Cropps, and a brother Granville Rawley. A Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday Morning January 3, 2009 in the Dobson City Cemetery with Elder Rodney Keen officiating the services. There will be a wake held Friday night in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home from 7 until 8 PM. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Cropps family.
