Mary Marlene Simmons Cruise

Mrs. Mary Marlene Simmons Cruise, age 85 of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, August 29, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Cruise was born in Surry County, October 22, 1922 to Isaiah and Nora Venable Simmons. She was retired from Hospital Pharmacy and was a loving mother and grandmother. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ricky Jones of Mt. Airy; Janice and Ray Thornton of Naples, FL; a son Dennis Cruise also of Naples, FL; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Margie Hemmings of Mt. Airy; and a brother, James Simmons of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cruise was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Cruise; by a grandson, Zach Cruise; sisters, Leona Key and Jane Gardner and by a brother, Harlan Simmons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 1, 2008 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conduced by Rev. Darren Slate. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
