Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Williamson Dodgen, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away Sunday night, May 1, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Dodgen was born August 5, 1930, in Surry County, daughter of the late William M. and Marjorie Puckett Williamson. She graduated from Mount Airy High School and Radford University. Mrs. Dodgen began her career as a mathematician with NASA, and later taught math in middle school and high school in Newport News, VA. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and was the president of Williamsburg Community Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, John A. Dodgen, Sr.; a daughter, Cathy Dodgen of Williamsburg, VA; a son, John A. "Chip" Dodgen, Jr. of Gulf Shores, AL; three grandchildren, Felipe Seiber, Vitor Seiber, and John Dodgen, all of Gulf Shores, AL; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Pamela Williamson of Lexington; a niece, Dana Williamson Nordan of Trinity; and a nephew, Dax A. Williamson of Lexington. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, 1542 North Main Street, Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Ayers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter Office, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Dodgen family.
