Mrs. Mary Ellie Scott Goad, 84, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation. She was born in Surry County on April 8, 1934 to the late Walter and Sadie Pack Scott. Mrs. Goad was a member of Community Baptist Church, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda and Donnie Combs, Celia and Gary Dollyhigh, Marisa and Joey Mason; sons and daughter-in-law, Pete and Phyllis Goad, Wayne and Tonia Goad; grandchildren, Ashani Hiatt, Sonny and Susie Hiatt, Matt and Tracy Goad, Dakota Goad, Houston Goad, Olivia Billings, Mackenzie and Walter Gould, Payden and Britnie Mason, Dylan Mason, Autumn Mason; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Lamb, Faye and Dwight Johnson, Maxine Scott; sister-in-law, Pearl Scott; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goad was preceded in death by her husband, George Goad, Jr.; sisters, Maydee Cromer, Gladys Anderson, Maggie Hayden, and Ruby Raines; and brothers, Arthur Scott, Bill Scott, Tom Scott, and John Scott. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Community Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers Marie, Tania, and Olivia, and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care given to their mother.
