Mary Ellen Hairston

        Mrs. Mary Ellen Hairston, age 67 of Stuart, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, at SOVAH Hospital of Martinsville.  She was born in Patrick County on April 16, 1954, and was preceded in death by her father, James Hairston, and a brother, Willie Sanders Penn.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and friend and was very devoted to her husband, kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

        Mrs. Hairston is survived by her husband of 53 years, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Penn of the home; her mother, Mary Madgeline H. Hairston of Stuart; five children, Cindy Penn (Michael), Venson Hairston, April Penn, Katrina Hairston and Roosevelt Hairston (Michelle), all of Stuart; ten grandchildren, Steven Michael Penn, Shawntae Monquie Scott (Aaron), Janella M’Liss Yellock (Courtney), Marcell Dangelo Hairston, Delana R. Smith (Dalton Boyd), Larnesha A. Penn, Aden J.B. Penn, Asia T. Penn, Sirraulton J. Penn and Jykevis S. Hairston; eight great-grandchildren, Nycyere Barbour, Aubree Jones, Cyer Yellock, Dayvia Boyd, D.J. Boyd, Hayilaa Hairston, Marley Hairston and Skylar Hairston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

        Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Hairston on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Leander Reynolds eulogizing.  Burial will be private.  A wake will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
