Mary Ethel Haynes Vernon

Mrs. Mary Ethel Haynes Vernon, 87, of Mount Airy, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, October 4, 2021, from Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation in Mount Airy. Mrs. Vernon was born December 11, 1933, in Surry County, to the late William Roosevelt Haynes and Hassie Martin Haynes. She retired from Perry Manufacturing after many years of service. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and the Rev. Robbie Sizemore; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Reid Vernon, Jr. and Kathy Vernon; five grandchildren, Amanda Messick, John Sizemore, Chris Vernon, Jessica Vernon, and Melissa Vernon Stone; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Haynes. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vernon was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Raymond Reid Vernon, Sr. “Pockets”; two grandsons, Nathaniel William Vernon and Cameron Dale Vernon; and by three brothers, Clayton Haynes, Hansel Haynes and William Haynes. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM at New Venture Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Deward Scott and Rev. Robbie Sizemore. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30AM.
