Mrs. Mary Magdalene Scott Jessup, age 99, of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Northern Hospital. Mrs. Jessup was born in Surry County on October 17, 1919, to the late Charlie and Lucinda Hooker Scott. She was so loving and, so dear to her family and many extended family and friends. Among the many who will always cherish her memory is a son and daughter-in-law, James, Jr and Linda Jessup; grandchildren, Sonya Sawyers and husband Milford, Mitch Jessup and wife Sherrie; great grandchildren, Ryne Jessup and wife Emily, Jennifer Pardue and husband Tyler, Shannon Johnson and husband Daniel, Kalyn Karpenko and husband Ken, a great-great granddaughter, Emalyn Johnson; a sister and brother-in-law, Alyene and Haywood Young; and a brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Deward and Louise Scott; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jessup was preceded in death by her husband, James Matthew Jessup, Sr.; brothers and sisters, Carl Scott, Nellie Marion, Hazel McMillian, Irene Tilley, Paul Scott, Herbert Scott, Gene Scott, Ava Hutchens, Helen Key, and J.C. Scott. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 23, 2018, 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Deward Scott officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 until 10:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Skilled Care Nursing Unit at Northern Hospital of Surry County, 830 Rockford St., Mt.
