Mary Elizabeth Johnson

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McBride Johnson, 86, of Mount Airy, widow of Johnny Carroll Johnson, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Ridgecrest Retirement and Assisted Living. She was born February 25, 1928, in Surry County, to the late Boss Benton and Kate Marie Sutphin McBride. She was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting and a homemaker. Mrs. Johnson had a special interest in gardening, cooking, and taking care of her family. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth (Libby) Johnson Bills and Alan of Charlotte, and Maria Ann Johnson of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Robert Hartwell Bills of Arlington, VA, and Lauren Elizabeth Bills of Charlotte; a sister and brother-in-law, Jettie Venable and Ron of Salisbury; a brother and sister-in-law, Ted McBride and Jean of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Lee McBride. A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 24, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jake Penley. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time for Mrs. Johnson to be carried to the cemetery for the service.
