Mary Keyes

Ms. Mary Keyes, 70, of Mt. Airy, went home to be with her Father in heaven on Friday evening, December 18, 2009, at Central Continuing Care Nursing Home in Mt. Airy. She was born in Harford County, Maryland, August 26, 1939, to the late Herbert and Helen Elliott Keyes. She was a retired machine operator for the Bata Shoe Factory and attended Welcome Valley Baptist Church. Surviving are her three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Farrington of Dobson, Priscilla and Maynard Abee of Claremont, and Donna Maines of Elkin; six grandchildren, Scott Vandevander, Jeanette and Gabriel Avalos-Beltran, Rebecca Vandevander, Tammy and Mario Avalos-Beltran, Tracy Keyes, and Mary Maines;
four great-grandchildren, Breana, Emily, Michael, and Flor; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Jan Keyes of Maryland and Roy and Joan Keyes of Delaware; a special family member, Butter Maines. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 21, 2009, at Welcome Valley Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Bill Jenkins will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at Welcome Valley Baptist Church on Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and Central Continuing Care for the love and care given to their mother.
