Mrs. Mary Ellen Dockery Marion, 78, loving wife of Howard Daniel Marion of Dobson passed away Thursday November 30, 2006 at Elkin Healthcare while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on May 31, 1928 to the late Charlie Albert and Ellen Connley Dockery. Mrs. Marion was retired from Tultex Industries and a member of Salem Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 61 years, Howard Daniel Marion of the home; a daughter and son-in-law Melinda M. and Ray Baker of Sneads Ferry, NC; a son Danny Marion of Dobson, NC and a son and daughter-in-law Keith and Debbie Marion of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren and spouses Danette and Dickie Davis of Dobson, Dana and Donald Whitlow of Danville, VA, Greg and Kristy Sidden of State Road, NC, Nathan and Linda Sidden of Nashville, NC; Andrea and Dennis Hemby of Kinston, NC, Brian Marion, Todd Marion, David and Bethany Marion and Amy Marion all of Columbia, SC; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister Josephine Wright of Charlotte, NC; two sisters-in-law Faye Duenkel and husband Bill of Jonesville, NC and Edna Pilson of Sanford, NC; special friend and "Howard's walking buddy" Ann Moser of Dobson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marion was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Hyatt, Irene Calcutt; three brothers, A Dockery, Charles Dockery and Herbert Dockery. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday December 2, 2006 at Salem Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Lewis, Rev. Billy Sellers, Rev. Keith Marion and members of the Marion family officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Salem Baptist Church from 6:30 to 9 PM on Friday December 1, 2006 where her body will remain to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 430 Rockford Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Elkin Healthcare for the love and care given to Mrs. Marion during her stay there.
