Mary Alice Wagoner McMillian

Mrs. Mary Alice Wagoner McMillian, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 17, 2022.

She loved life and always had a smile, even in the hardest of times. She loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren – in Mount Airy, in Greensboro, and in Pittsburgh. She loved beach trips, especially Litchfield and Amelia Island, Disney trips, and visits to any place that had pretty floral gardens. She was an avid Tarheel fan and also enjoyed attending Wake Forest games. She was always up for an adventure, even as the neurological disease she had took hold of her body over the last five years. Mary was a wonderful homemaker for her husband and daughters. Her silly songs she sang to her family will never be forgotten. She was an ideal employee when she worked outside the home and set a beautiful example for others. She worked very hard in many capacities at her home church of Haymore Memorial Baptist in Mount Airy. She taught Sunday school, Sunbeams, and was very active in WMU and her circle. She exemplified Christ’s love in everything she did.

Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ronald T. McMillian; her mother and father, Maude and John Wagoner; her sister, Peggy Wagoner; and her half-siblings, Paul, Thomas, Charles, Ellie, and Octavia Wagoner. She will always be cherished by her daughters, Alison McMillian Goodman (husband John) and Marisa McMillian Tomasic. She was an incredible grandmother to Lindsay Tomasic Kicmol (husband Ian), John Tomasic, and Max and Lee McMillian-Goodman. She also dearly loved her special caregiver, Maggie Bryant, and was so very blessed to have had her to help Marisa, Alison, John, and Lindsay with her care.

There will be no visitation. A private service will be held in the future. Contributions in her honor may be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or CurePSP (progressive supra nuclear palsy) at https://www.psp.org/iwanttohelp/ways-to-give/.
