Mary Lou (Cockerham) Oliver

Mrs. Mary Lou Cockerham Oliver, age 88 of King, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.  Mrs. Oliver was born on January 5, 1935 in Surry County to the late Grover Cleveland and Treva Smith Cockerham.  Mom, Mama, Grandma, Moo-ma, Sissy, and friend, she was all of these and will be dearly missed.  Mary retired from Dillard’s in Winston-Salem after many years of service.  She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane Hart and husband Phillip of Mount Airy, Gail Key and husband, Ray of King; two grandsons, Jacob Hart of Mount Airy, Justin Sams of King; one sister and brother-in-law, Deborah Cockerham Hiatt and husband, Lee Hiatt, Jr. of King; and her special friend Frank Smith of King.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death a sister, Zettie Mae “Eddie” Cockerham Shelton; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Shelton.  A private graveside service will be held at Skyline Memory Gardens.  No formal visitation will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
