Mary Frances Gillespie Scott, 90, of Dobson, passed away January 12, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Scott was born in Surry County, one of five children to the late Emmett and Minnie Snow Gillispie. Mrs. Scott held a variety of positions in the business world after graduating from Draughn's Business College in 1944, but her proudest accomplishment was being a homemaker. She dedicated her life to the creation of a loving home for her family and was the source of ceaseless support to her husband in his professional career and community activities. Frances was also an active member of Dobson First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Scott is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Dr. Jean Scott of Lubbock, Texas, and Ross and Jennifer Scott of Dobson; and daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Karen and David Smith and Angie and Chuck Graham, all of Dobson. "Granny Frances" loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The seven grandchildren include Eric Scott of Lubbock, Texas, Kelly Scott of Dallas, Texas, Matt (Dr. Jessica) Scott, Jillian (Jason) Hutchins, Jenny Alyn (Seth) Key, Chase and Carter Graham, all of Dobson. Great-grandchildren include Eli, Maddy, Layla, Mary Elizabeth, Ty, Caroline, Gracie, and Riggs.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by the love of her life, Clifford Scott, married 62 years, as well as her sister, Olivia G. Holt, and three brothers, Wilson, Zeb, and Roland Gillispie.
A service of worship and celebration of her life will be held at Dobson First Baptist Church on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Cory Honeycutt officiating, as well as Dr. Jean Scott. Burial will follow at Salem Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Dobson First Baptist Church Fellowship Center Saturday evening beginning at 6:00. The family at other times welcomes friends to their family home at 826 Zephyr Road, Dobson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dobson First Baptist Church for local missions, 204 South Crutchfield Street, Dobson, NC 27017. Contributions may also be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
The family is most thankful for the compassionate care provided by Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and the love shown by family and friends, especially Hilda C. Jones, throughout her months of illness. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Scott family.
