Mary Margaret Sumpter Simmons

Mrs. Mary Margaret Sumpter Simmons, 86, of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Mercer County, West Virginia on October 5, 1929 to the late Griff and Bessie Bobbitt Sumpter. Mrs. Simmons was retired from Northern Hospital and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn Sawyers and Danny of Mt. Airy; son and daughters-in-law, Gideon Mark Simmons and Norma, and Jeannie Simmons all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren and spouse, Travis Ryan Sawyers, Kimberly Dawn Sawyers, Jessica Simmons, Joshua Simmons, Brandy Carter and Brent; great grandchildren, Alyssa and Adelind. In addition to her parents Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Gideon Franklin Simmons; a son, Michael Franklin Simmons; a grandson, Trenton Ray Sawyers; a sister, Ora Mae Morton. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Wayburn Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
