Mary Leigh Simmons Adams

Mrs. Mary Leigh Simmons Adams, age 83 of Mount Airy, passed away at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy on Tuesday evening September 19, 2023.  She was born in Surry County on September 9, 1940, to the late Garnet and Princess Alice Callaway Simmons.  She was a retired RN and loved to work with her flowers and gardening.  Left to cherish her memory are a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Lisa Adams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Betty M. Simmons, Michael and Betty G. Simmons, and Glenda Simmons; brother-in-law, Leon Riddle and wife Ina; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Burney Earle Adams; a brother, Richard Allen Simmons; and two sisters and brother-in-law, Sally and Roy Utt, and Janet Simmons Riddle.  Graveside services will be held on Sunday September 24, 2023, at 3:00PM at the Peoples Church Cemetery with the Rev. John Cox officiating.  Mrs. Adams will lie-in-state at Moody Funeral Home until time to be taken to the cemetery for the service.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.  The family would like to give a special thank you to Brenda Quesinberry, Frankie Cox, and to the staff of Northern Regional Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and Central Continuing Care for all of the love and support given to Mary Leigh and the family during her illness.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
