Mrs. Mary Lou Vada King Tate of Mt. Airy, age 93 passed away May 9, 2008 at the Golden Living-Surry Community Nursing Center. Mrs. Tate was born in Surry County, May 1, 1915 to the late Hozie Green King and Virginia Elizabeth Leonard King. She was a homemaker and member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. .Surviving are three daughters Hattie Monday of Lowgap, Emmar Butcher of State Road and Annie Norman of Mt. Airy, two sons Johnny Tate and Donald Tate both of Mt. Airy, Eleven grandchildren, Fourteen great grandchildren and Seven great great grandchildren and two sisters and brothers-in-law Hazel and Benton Robertson of Cana and Margie and Thomas Beck of Ararat, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson Tate; two sons, Harvey Lance Tate and William Jackson "Bill" Tate, Jr.; two sisters Frankie Tate and Nellie Edwards and by a brother Robert King. Funeral services will be held Monday May 12, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at New Bethel Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Jimmy McCraw and Rev. Clarence Monday with burial to follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night 7 to 9 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family will like to express a special thank you to the Golden Living-Surry Community Nursing Center, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and all the friends that came to visit Mrs. Tate.
