Mary Catherine Smith Welch, 93, entered into rest on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Mrs. Welch was born on April 20, 1925 in Hartsville, South Carolina. She was a retired civil servant from Charleston Naval Shipyard and held offices in NARFE in North and South Carolina. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star in North and South Carolina. Mrs. Welch was a past matron of Azalea Chapter #192 in North Charleston, South Carolina and held statewide offices in South Carolina’s Grand Chapter. Her husband of sixty-two years, Walter McGee “Giggie” Welch; parents, George James Smith and Agnes Irene Law Smith; sister, Annie Mae Smith Derr; brothers, George James Smith, Jr., Joshua David Smith and Gerald Augustus Smith, and grandson-in-law Robert Michael Blair, proceeded her in death. Her memory will forever be treasured by her children; Walter McGee Welch, Jr. (Carol) of Anderson, South Carolina and Mary Lou Welch Hilton (Johnny) of Kathleen, Georgia; grandchildren, Walter Christopher Welch (Emily) of Natick, Massachusetts, Meridith McGee Welch Blair of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Jonathan Alexander Hilton (Emily) of Byron, Georgia; great grandchildren, Katherine Marie Welch and Ian James Welch of Natick, Massachusetts and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, October 15, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy, North Carolina, where Mrs. Welch will be laid to rest beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mary Welch to Central Baptist Church building fund at 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088 or Mount Airy Friends Meeting at 109 W. Wilson Street, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
