Mary Lillie Mears White

Mrs. Mary Lillie Mears White, 101, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. White was born February 15, 1916, in Surry County, to the late Joseph Hillery and Annice Pruett Mears. She was such a loving person who “worked hard all her life and never complained.” Mrs. White touched many lives with her kindness and “was truly wonderful woman.” She was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. Among the many who will always cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Ricky White, Kathy Galyean, and Sherri White; her great-grandchildren, Jacob Galyean and Corey Galyean; two very special sisters, Sallie Mears and Pauline Jackson; a sister-in-law, Louise Mears; several special nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-law, Thelma White. In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Ray White; a daughter, Frankie White; two sons, Scotty White and Ray White, Jr.; three sisters, Lois Long, Betty Simmons, and Louise Cockerham; and three brothers, Tom Mears, Claude Mears, and Raymond Mears. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 3, 2017, at 2:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Pastor Rick Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:30 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mrs. White.
