Mary Ann McCreary White

Mrs. Mary Ann McCreary White, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010, at her home. She was born July 21, 1921, in Surry County, July 21, 1921 to Cornelius Franklin and Myrtle Elizabeth McMillian McCreary. Mrs. White was the first female employee of the Mount Airy City Water Department, where she was a supervisor; she served as clerk of court and police secretary all at the same time. Later, she and her husband owned and operated a town and country store near their Kentucky home. Mrs. White will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Leon White of the home; a sister, Helen Wood of Mount Airy; brothers and a sister-in-law, Billy and Donna Beasley of Galax, VA, and Robert Beasley of Dobson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Crowder; and a brother, Sam McCreary. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Robbie Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.
