Matthew Michael Gatchel

Mr. Matthew Michael Gatchel age 40, of Mount Airy, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, January 30, 2023. He was born in Lynchburg, VA , May 26, 1982, the son of Michael R. and Linda B. Gatchel. He was a graduate of Mount Airy High School and attended Tusculum University in Greeneville, TN. He volunteered with Yokefellow Cooperative Ministries and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy. Surviving are his son, Eli Matthew Gatchel whom he loved unconditionally; his parents, Michael R. and Linda B. Gatchel; his brother, Benjamin David Gatchel and his friend, Lee Patrick; and Matthew’s significant other of 14 years, Emily Blevins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene and Kathryn Bergh, and Roland and Eva Gatchel. Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Paul Ridolfi officiating. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral  home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Yokefellow Cooperative Ministries, 461 North South Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Surry Animal Rescue, 1106 South South Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
