Mattie Josephine Carter McCraw

Mrs. Mattie Josephine "Jo" Carter McCraw, 71, formerly of Gwyn Street and Surry Community Nursing Center in Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, VA. Mrs. McCraw was born September 17, 1937, in Surry County, daughter of the late John "Tott" Ernie and Mary Sparks Carter. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Moravian Church. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and David Hauser of Lewisville, and Lisa and Terry Porter and Laurie and Scottie Chilton, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Tanner Porter, Hannah Chilton, and Cameron Chilton, all of Mount Airy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Audene and Ray Bennett and Audrey and Wade Collins, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Faye Carter of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCraw was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward McCraw; a sister, Becky Carter Miller; and a brother, Eugene Carter. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Grace Moravian Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Anthony Hayworth, and burial will follow in God's Acre. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
