Mattie Sue Posey Payne

Ms. Mattie Sue Posey Payne, age 86 of Pilot Mountain, NC, passed away at her home on Monday May 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.   She was born November 14, 1937, in Surry County to the late Ernest Woodrow Posey and Mintoria Bowman Posey.   She was a long-time member of Sulphur Springs Church.  Granny loved her family, her church family, and anything to do with the outdoors.  Mattie was very easy going, but very independent, push mowing her yard at the age of 85 was among some of the things that had to be done her way.  Left to cherish her memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Butch Jones, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark and Debbie Lawson Payne, and Tim Payne; five grandchildren, Chance Jones, Brooke Payne, Brittany Payne, Kimberly Bree and Wade Miller, and Amber and Nick Darrh; several great grandchildren; Many great great grandchildren; her best friend, Joann Whittington; and several other family and friends.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Payne was preceded in death by sister, Barbara Shelton; and by her brother, Ernest Larry Posey.  Graveside services will be private at Pine Hill Church Cemetery.  There will not be any formal visitation at the funeral home.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
