Maude Evelyn Matthews Meredith

Mrs. Maude Evelyn Matthews Meredith, 94, of Ararat, passed away Friday night, June 16, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Meredith was born July 7, 1922, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Ben and Lula Sechrist Matthews. Maude was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Stanley and Eva Meredith of Ararat, and Roger and Edith Meredith and Debbie Meredith, all of Mount Airy; a son-in-law, Rick Meekins of Kernersville; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Meredith was preceded in death by her husband, Warren G. Meredith; three daughters, Carol Hawks, Barbara Beck, and Joyce Meekins; a son, David Meredith; two grandchildren, Lisa Watson and Gray Beck; a great-grandchild, David Wayne Sizemore, II; three infant siblings; and four sisters, Myrtle Smith, Mildred “Mallie” Deatherage, Emma Utt, and Nancy Cockerham. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jimmy McCraw and Ferris Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
