Maude Willard Morris

Mrs. Maude Willard Morris, age 101, formerly of Mount Airy, died peacefully in her apartment in Salemtowne Retirement Community on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.  Born in Carroll County, Virginia, on January 10, 1920, Maude was the last surviving child of Meiggs and Cora Westmoreland Willard.  She married the love of her life, the late Howard Victor Morris, in 1939.  He died in 2010.  Maude was a kind and loving homemaker who dedicated her life to creating a loving home for her family.  She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mount Airy where she was active in the Dorcas Electa Sunday School Class and the Jackson Meeks Mission Action Group.  She is survived by her children, Louise Crusenberry, of Bristol, Tennessee, Martha Morgan and husband Kent Morgan of Winston-Salem, and Howard Morris, Jr., and wife Tamoney Morris of Myrtle Beach, and her grandchildren Nora Morton and husband John Morton of Goldsboro, and Anna Nelson and husband Peter A. Nelson of Bristol, Tennessee.  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Martha, Mary and Matthew Morton and Peter C. Nelson; her step-grandchildren, Brandon and Katie Hall, Dylan Hall and Bowen Ammons; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Morris and Margie Moseley; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cora Ann Morris; four sisters, Hester McCreary, Juanita Bowman, Lettie Thomas and Josie Robinson; and four brothers, Roy, Troy, Dewey and Bill Willard; and son-in-law Chris Crusenberry.  A funeral service will be held in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM, with Dr. Roger Gilbert and Rev. Jay Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.  The Morris family will visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service. The family would like to thank Rhonda Martin who cared for Maude for 10 years in her home in Mount Airy and the wonderful members of Salemtowne Home Care.  Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Mount Airy, 714 North Main St. Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the Morris family.
