Mr. Max Edward Simpson, 59, of 299 Radar Road, Ararat, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Mr. Simpson was born August 4, 1947, in Surry County, to the late William Lacy and Maggie Edwards Simpson. Max served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was employed by Wilford Simpson Inc., a landscaping and seeding company, for many years and later owned and operated Simpson Trucking, Inc. Mr. Simpson was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Nichols Simpson of the home; a daughter, Julie Simpson of the home; a sister, Tish Simpson Caudle of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Rosalie Simpson of Mount Airy and Leonard and Katye Simpson of Elkin; and his mother-in-law, Annie Nichols of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by a brother, Wilford Simpson. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Little Mountain Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Watson. Burial will follow in the Little Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the John L. Wood Scholarship Fund, c/o Surry Community College Foundation, 630 South Main Street, Dobson, NC 27017, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
